Climate change in the classroom

We all know that the teaching of evolution is a highly controversial subject across much of the US. According to Chris Mooney over at DeSmogBlog, climate change education is now also attracting volatile opposition from some quarters.

To counter those seeking to undermine climate education in the US, Mooney suggests that an equivalent to the National Center for Science Education (an organisation that defends evolution in US schools) is needed.

All very worrying. Especially since, as I have said many times before on this blog, it should be the US that takes the lead on reducing emissions, developing clean energy technologies and researching how to minimise the impact of AGW.

It feels like it’s one step forward, three steps back at the moment.
